Stefan Stanciu is a musician, composer and music educator whose primary instrument is the pan flute. Alongside more than ten solo albums, he has appeared on television and radio programmes and given hundreds of concerts as a soloist, from classical chamber ensembles to wind and symphony orchestras. His repertoire covers classical, entertainment, electronic and folk music.
In 2003 he became the first person in Finland to complete a professional examination in pan flute at a conservatory. He then studied pedagogy at Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, graduating in 2007 as a pedagogue of oboe and pan flute. In 2008 he completed a Master of Arts in musicology at the University of Jyväskylä, and in December 2014 a Master of Music at the Sibelius Academy, where he studied pan flute in the Folk Music Department.
He studied composition at Tampere University of Applied Sciences with Hannu Pohjannoro and Paavo Korpijaakko, including an exchange period in 2018–2019 at the Conservatorio di musica Santa Cecilia in Rome with Maurizio Gabrieli and Riccardo Riccardi, graduating as a composer in December 2022.
His pan flute method book "Step-By-Step Guide" was published in Germany in 2017, the same year his albums "Cantus Pantus", "No Panic!" and "My Christmas" were released. In 2025 he was accepted as a member of the Society of Finnish Composers and released the albums "From Earth to Heaven" and "Our Christmas" with organist Elias Niemelä, together with the collection "Christmas Music for Pan Flute Ensemble".
Between 2009 and 2017 he played oboe and english horn in the Helsinki Police Band. He has taught pan flute and oboe for over twenty years at institutions including the Vantaa Music Institute, the Helsinki Conservatory, Centria University of Applied Sciences and the Sibelius Academy.
